Privacy Policy

What we collect when you join Federal Africa, what we do with it, who else handles it, and the choices you have.

Who we are

Federal Africa, operated by Africa One LLC ("we", "us") runs federalafrica.org and federalafrica.com, the websites of Federal Africa, a citizen-led simulation of a united Africa. This policy covers the public site, the member area, the member dashboard and public profiles. Questions about it go to info@federalafrica.org.

What we collect

  • Account details: first and last name, email address, country, and a password we store only as a one-way hash.
  • Profile details you choose to add: photo, city, biography, interests, expertise, previous positions, social links.
  • Membership and payment records: your tier, membership number, dates, the amount paid, the provider used and its reference. We never see or store card numbers or mobile money PINs; those go to the payment provider.
  • Activity inside Federal Africa: votes cast, projects joined, councils and communities you belong to, posts and comments you make.
  • Technical data: IP address, browser and device type, and the pages you request, kept in server logs for security, abuse prevention and rate limiting.
  • Email events: whether a confirmation, reset or receipt mail was sent, and bounces reported by our email provider.

Why we use it

  • To run your membership: create your account, confirm your email, take payment, activate your tier, send receipts and renewal reminders.
  • To run the federation: count your votes, seat you in councils and institutions, list you in the member directory, show your public profile at the visibility you choose.
  • To keep the site safe: detect abuse, limit sign-up and login attempts, moderate reported content.
  • To contact you about Federal Africa: service messages always; newsletters and announcements only while you keep them switched on in your profile.

Who else handles your data

We use these providers, each under its own privacy terms, and share only what each needs:

  • Hetzner Online GmbH (Germany): hosting of the website and database.
  • Cloudflare, Inc.: DNS and traffic protection in front of the website.
  • Amazon Web Services (Amazon SES, EU-Central): sending of confirmation, reset and receipt emails.
  • Pesapal, Flutterwave and PayPal: processing of membership payments. Your name, email and the amount are passed to the provider you choose; the provider returns a reference and the outcome.
  • The Federal ID system (OFIS), once enrollment opens: issuing and verifying your Federal ID.

Your public profile

Your public profile shows your name, photo, country and city, tier, the offices you hold and the profile details you added. You choose whether it is public, visible to members only, or private, from your dashboard. Your email address and payment details are never shown.

How long we keep it

  • Your account and profile: for as long as you are a member or your membership is pending.
  • A pending account that is not paid within 30 days is deleted.
  • Payment and membership records: seven years after the payment, for accounting.
  • Server logs: 30 days.
  • When you delete your account, your profile, posts and votes are removed or anonymised within 30 days; payment records are kept as above.

Your rights

You can see and correct your details from your dashboard at any time. You can ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to a use of it by writing to info@federalafrica.org. We answer within 30 days. If you are in a country with a data protection authority, you may also complain to it.

Cookies and storage

We set no advertising or tracking cookies. The site keeps your sign-in tokens and your preferences in your browser's storage so that you stay signed in; Cloudflare may set a security cookie to protect the site from abuse.

Age

Membership is open to people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

We update this policy when our services change and show the effective date at the top. Members are told of material changes by email.
